The reunion committee has received requests from dog owners and other Southwest neighbors who use the football field to co-host a volunteer day at the football field. This volunteer effort will take place on Saturday morning, August 16th between 8 AM and 10 AM. The primary purposes for this are weed pulling, clearing the storm drains around the field of dirt and weeds, and improvement of the area around the monument at the northeast corner of the field. The work generally involves basic lawn and garden and landscaping tasks.
Volunteers are asked to bring at least one garden tool and a watering can filled with water. Yard waste bags are needed for the weeds that will be pulled. Shovels and buckets will be needed to move dirt from the storm drainage areas to the area between the east side of the track and the fence. There may also be a need for a cordless weed trimmer and a mower for the area near the parking lot at the south end of the field.
Most of the work for this project will be done in shade and can be done in pairs or small groups. This will be a good opportunity for you to visit with classmates prior to the reunion and to help the school area look a little better for our reunion weekend. Several neighborhood dog owners have also volunteered for this project.
Please note there is little if any trash on the field since there is already an informal system in place at the field for trash collection.
Bob Swisher has agreed to help coordinate this effort. If you would like to participate, please leave your name in the comments section below. Thank you very much.
